Verity Immersion is a special opportunity for Year 11 students to immerse themselves in the spirit and culture of the people of East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.
Learning about Aboriginal language, kinship structure and law, the students develop an understanding of how Aboriginal spirituality is inextricably connected to the land where First Nations' Peoples have resided for thousands of years.
Verity Immersion is an inspiring, spiritual journey, with multiple benefits for the participants. Socially and emotionally it is an opportunity for intense and significant growth. This is of value not only to each individual student, but to the community to which they return. The direct learning experience of our nation's history and of indigenous culture is of inestimable value, both for its own sake and as it relates to their work in Studies of Religion and other HSC courses. It is also a profound experience spiritually, in terms of the connections and reflections the participants are led into, and the simple opportunity to strip their daily life of its dependence on first world concerns.
I don't have the words to describe how grateful I am that I was chosen to be a part of the immersion. I can easily say it was one of the most amazing things I have ever done in my life and if I could, I would go back to Bukudal tomorrow!
