LK Connect showcases women in advertising

Thank you to Ogilvy Australia and particularly ex-student Sally Kissane ('86), CEO of Ogilvy Network ANZ, for hosting an exceptional LK Connect Women in Advertising event, exploring the fast-paced and ever-evolving landscape of advertising. Students, ex-students, parents and staff gathered to hear from an impressive panel of women who have forged careers in advertising.

The panellists were drawn from across the industry, representing a broad range of professional opportunities in marketing, client service, strategy, and creative.  Thank you to Anneliese Douglass (’90), Director-Marketing & Communication, Nestle Oceania; Rachel McEwan (’09), Team Lead, Special Australia; Bridget Jung, Creative Director, Ogilvy Australia; and Fran Clayton, Chief Strategy Officer, Ogilvy AUNZ.

Bridget Jung spoke of the importance of curiosity and collaboration, paraphrasing the famous quote of spy novelist John Le Carré: “Your desk is a dangerous place to be for too long.”

Rachel McEwan described the journey of her fledgling agency, winning the new start-up Uber as a client more than ten years ago.

Anneliese Douglass demonstrated how successful products are born at the junction between strategy, marketing and creativity.

Sally Kissane shared some of the details of the Ogilvy graduate program, a fantastic opportunity for young graduates to discover the workings of an agency in account management, creative, and planning. Her advice to young graduates? “Always say yes!  Too often we doubt ourselves or think there is someone more deserving.”

Panellists delved into the background of some memorable marketing and advertising campaigns for clients such as Dove, Arnott’s, Uber, and the Opera House, and spoke of the importance of collaboration, persistence and being a good listener.

Recent graduate Madeleine Newman (’20) was enthusiastic about the evening. “For me the key take-away was that advertising can be a powerful force for social change – it has the potential to spark conversations and drive meaningful progress. I feel incredibly inspired and grateful for the chance to learn from such a talented group of women in the industry.  I’m excited to carry these insights forward.”

Year 12 student Clementine was similarly inspired. “Hearing these stories about navigating the landscape of advertising – whether it’s the importance of staying adaptable, embracing innovation, or truly understanding the power of human connection in crafting impactful campaigns – have been incredibly inspiring. The wisdom they imparted about the role of collaboration, the value of persistence and the need for continual learning is something we will carry forward as we embark on our own journeys.”

We also congratulate Sally on her recent recognition in the CEO Magazine ANZ's inaugural Women of Influence Spotlight in the lead up to International Women’s Day.
