Future-thinking vision wins Loreto Kirribilli an Excellence Award

Loreto Kirribilli has been recognised with an Excellence Award in the 2024 Australian Education Awards, in the category of Innovation in Learning Environment Design.

The building at the centre of the award is the Spiritus innovation centre, a seven-storey learning hub which opened its doors to students in Term 1, 2023. Its dynamic, versatile, learning spaces and studios are designed to enhance interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary learning, further foster creative and critical thinking, and provide space for the entrepreneurial mindset.

This outstanding building design is part of a 50-year Master Plan for the school, the result of extensive consultation, and responding to the demands of the driving forces in education. In particular, the design is open, yet dividable, flexible, with appropriate constraints. The new technologies housed within Spiritus have accelerated the ongoing digital transformation of the school campus through immersive experiences.

In winning this Excellence Award, Spiritus reflects Loreto Kirribilli’s future-thinking vision for education. The flexible learning spaces and purpose-built studios enable and foster new pedagogies and methodologies, using equipment and technologies demanded by 21st Century economies and workplaces. We are preparing our students for the evolving world beyond school, equipping them to adapt and thrive within a completely reimagined future.

The Australian Education Awards recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of the country’s top performing schools, principals, department heads and teachers.
